The first "Château" among Québec vineyards

Since the beginning of the 19th century, the ancestors of the Taillefer family have been cultivating the land on the Laval territory. In 1976, with the help of other family members, Jean-François Taillefer acquired a farm located in Sainte-Dorothée, on Montée Champagne ... a sure sign of predestination if ever there was one!

Château Taillefer Lafon is the first Québec vineyard to be authorized to use the designation ‘Château’. The establishment has opened its extraordinary decor and atmosphere to the public last summer, in 2005. Château Taillefer Lafon is the largest producer of grapes originating from ‘noble vines’ (vitis vinifera) in Québec. A soil of fertile limon left by the ancient Champlain Sea (before it receded millions of years ago) and the talent of winemaker and co-shareholder Fabrice Lafon, originally from France, gives a wine of truly exceptional quality.

In its first year of existence, the Château entered two of its products in the Sélections Mondiales des Vins 2004, one of the most prestigious international competitions around. Both products were winners: A Gold Medal for the ice wine and a Silver Medal for the ice cider. The ice wine has also won the Vinofed Trophy as best in the field among over 2,300 products entered from over 30 countries.

The majestic Château Taillefer Lafon vineyard is open to visitors: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed on Monday and Tuesday. The vineyard offers a range of quality products ranging from white and red wines, to Late Harvest wines (white and red), ice wine and ice cider, the last two having won awards.
