Laval, August 2, 2011—As a result of the $10.5 million investment announced in 2009, a newly revamped Cosmodôme will be launching its brand new interactive audiovisual concept in mid-December. Children and families will be offered a choice of three missions—just like in the movies—that are both educational and stimulating, each lasting 60 minutes. Each mission will present challenges that will require them to make decisions as interplanetary explorers, space engineers and space station researchers. The new Cosmodôme promises to become a world-class scientific tourist destination. For the process of transforming the Cosmodôme, the management is relying on the expertise of GSM Prjct, an internationally recognized firm specializing in the design and production of interactive exhibitions that make use of cutting-edge audiovisual and multimedia technologies.
Very soon, the Cosmodôme will be welcoming space buffs and those who are curious about space travel, stargazers and inspired space travellers. Visitors will be able to live a virtual dream and try their hand at decision-making as they relive the conquest of the Moon, explore the Red Planet or launch a probe that will travel beyond the confines of the known universe.
The countdown has begun!
“In 135 days, kids, families and school groups who visit the Cosmodôme will be transported into an environment where they will be immersed in a genuine space adventure. They’ll become the heroes of the 60-minute mission they have chosen. They’ll face challenges of space travel, discover new horizons, survive and have experiences. Stay tuned: we will be making announcements about our new program over the coming weeks, notably on the Cosmodôme’s Facebook page,” explains Sylvain Bélair, the Cosmodôme’s executive director.
Invaluable teaching tool
The Cosmodôme is the only centre in Canada dedicated to the understanding of astronautics and the conquest of space. It is an innovative reference on the subject of space travel and space exploration methods. With Québec home to a sizeable aerospace cluster, the new Cosmodôme will serve to stimulate interest in space science and careers associated with astronautics.
What lies ahead at the Cosmodôme?
During the renovations, which will continue until early December, the Cosmodôme will be completely redeveloped into a place where visitors can experience new space adventures. A state-of-the-art environment will be created, with multimedia installations that bring to life interactive audiovisual experience of three new missions. This redevelopment was made possible with a $10.5 million investment by the Québec government and the Ville de Laval.
It should be noted that, during this period, the space camp will remain open for registered campers. A franchise of the US Space Camp program, it will, of course, continue to be a key element in the revamped Cosmodôme, which will also include an exhibition of space artefacts.
To find out more about what’s going, visit the new Facebook page, where the transformation of the Cosmodôme will be revealed gradually over the next 135 days: www.facebook.com/Cosmodome. The Cosmodôme is located in Greater Montréal, at the intersection of highways 15 and 440 and is accessible from Montmorency metro station.
