467,000 AWESTRUCK VISITORS!
The world’s largest multimedia sound-and-light show returns to Laval in October 2021

LAVAL, QUEBEC (TUESDAY, MAY 4, 2021)@ILLUMICAVALIA – The producersof Illumi – A Fairy Tale of Lights by Cavaliaare proud to see that their teams’ hard work to reinvent the second edition of the world’s largest multimedia sound-and-light show during the pandemic has paid off. From October 9, 2020, to April 10, 2021, no fewer than 467,000 visitors of all ages were swept away by the magic and luminous poetry of the 18 enchanting scenes that make up this unique nighttime experience.

While tourist attractions and blockbuster events around the world were forced to close for several months, including Disney's theme parks, Illumi remained open. Thanks to the vision and determination of the creators and producers, the second edition ofIllumi has been completely transformed and reinvented. In the context of a pandemic, significant sums of money were invested in the creation and deployment of a new path by car, banking on the implementation of adequate sanitary measures and a customer experience that was intended to be a balm against the collective gloom.Illumi was able to offer a unique, safe and magical outing to nearly half a million visitors.

In total for its second edition,Illumi was presented for 25 weeks, which equals to 134 sold-out nights. Illumi has filled with wonder 467,000 people and families; 320,000 came by car, and 147,000 people walked the site. All were dazzled by the millions of lights.

“We feel truly blessed to have been able to create magical moments and bring joy into the lives of Quebecers despite a difficult and challenging year,” says Normand Latourelle, creator ofIllumi and Cavalia. “We completely reimaginedIllumiandsucceeded in producing and operating the only large-scale event of its kind in North America during the pandemic. Building on this experience, we’re ready to surprise audiences even more starting next October.”

A NEW ILLUMI IN OCTOBER!
Illumi will be back in Laval for its third edition starting in October 2021, and all the displays will be brand-new! “Expect even more surprises with new themes, even more impressive light structures, and worlds straight out of the imagination, creating colorful displays that transcend reality!” adds Normand Latourelle with a big smile.

A SECOND EDITION FILLED WITH UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS
Last fall, visitors enjoyed a special Halloween twist with monsters, ghosts, witches, and thousands of pumpkins making an appearance atIllumi. In early December,Illumi opened its walking tour and theIllumi holiday season, featuring several thousand light displays in winter colors. Throughout February, visitors were enchanted by a special Valentine’s Day theme, thanks to installations in the colors of love, all set to romantic soundtracks. While staying in their own little bubble, families had a blast exploring the 30,000 light displays throughout spring break. Young and old alike also enjoyed a spring and Easter theme beforeIllumi turned off its 20 million lights on April 10 to prepare for the next edition.

UNPARALLELED SATISFACTION
According to a customer survey, visitors were charmed byIllumi and are ready to come back to Laval for a new edition of the light show. No less than 96% of visitors indicated that they had a high and positive appreciation of Illumi. After only two editions, the Illumi tradition is taking root in the collective imagination.

JOB CREATION
Despite a labor market severely impacted by the pandemic in the entertainment and tourism sectors, the team Illumi team is proud to have hired 400 employees throughout the season to support operations for the light show, which can be enjoyed on foot or by car.

PASS IT ON TO THE NEXT PERSON
The team atIllumi team says it is honored to have brought joy and color into visitors’ lives. It was essential for the team to spread this magic by donating more than 2,300 free tickets to charitable organizations, including the Fondation Cité de la Santé, the Laval senior living facility Habitation Louise-Beauchamp, and the Fondation Equilibrium. In addition, in December, teams fromIllumi installed several light displays visible from the windows of Laval’s five public long-term care facilities (CHSLDs) to bring a little light into the daily lives of patients and staff.

Beyond donating tickets, Illumi and its partners have organized charitable events and activities for those in need, benefiting the Centre de bénévolat & Moisson Laval, the Charles-Bruneau Foundation, Entraide Pont-Viau, the Maison des Enfants le Dauphin de Laval, and the Starlight Canada Children’s Foundation.
