Éco-Nature kicks off its 2021 summer season

Opening of the boat rental center at Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park

Laval, May 20, 2021 – The Éco-Nature team is pleased to announce the start of the summer season at Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles with the opening of the Boat Rental Center on June 5, 2021, at the Berge du Garrot. Continuing with the safe, sanitary, and efficient approach from last summer, visitors will be able to rent boats on a first-come, first-served basis by visiting our outdoor kiosk. The Exploration Center will serve as a gathering point for day camp activities.

The sunny days of mid-June will mark the start of guided activities as part of the second phase of the gradual reopening. A premier family destination, the Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park will offer a range of guided activities such as introductory kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding lessons, guided family fishing, and a visitor favorite: kayaking at dusk. New this year, guests wishing to participate in a guided activity will be able to take advantage of a simple and convenient online booking process available in early June.

“My team and I are eager to kick off this summer season by offering a wide range of activities that are unique to Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles. We are truly fortunate to welcome families year after year who share our values and our passion for adventure,” said Christine Métayer, Executive Director of Éco-Nature.

These families and visitors from all walks of life will also be able to enjoy an enhanced experience at the Park this summer thanks to the addition of ten new docks and five footbridges. Announced by Éco-Nature last April, this development was made possible by the 2018–2021 Program to Support the Upgrading and Improvement of Trails and Outdoor Recreation Sites. This $85,000 project, of which $67,000 was generously funded by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, aims to make the Mille Îles River more accessible and thus offer future generations the opportunity to discover this true oasis of biodiversity.

Big news this summer: On May 18, in celebration of International Museum Day, the Park announced free admission to its museum for the entire 2021 summer season on a self-guided tour basis. This initiative aims to invite everyone to step into the world of the Thousand Islands River and gain a better understanding of the environmental issues at stake. More than just an exhibition, Incredible, but true! is a collective awakening to the actions we take and can all take to preserve this vital habitat. Visitors will also be able to enhance their experience with a guided tour once these are permitted.

Finally, with the arrival of warmer weather, the organization is once again asking for help from citizens who care deeply about the survival of Quebec’s turtles. Since opening its Turtle Rehabilitation Center in 2018—thanks to the invaluable collaboration of veterinarians, volunteers, and the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife, and Parks—Éco-Nature has admitted and treated more than a hundred turtles. As part of this initiative, the team of dedicated professionals has set up a dedicated email address to allow the community to share their observations and questions and to notify the team when an injured turtle is found. Over the past year, this communication tool has enabled the protection and conservation team to conduct rigorous monitoring of the region’s turtles. Therefore, if you observe injured turtles or turtles laying eggs, please report your observations to the email address: [email protected]

Éco-Nature invites you to make the most of summer by enjoying a wide range of fun and safe activities. Be sure to check the social media pages and website of the Rivièredes-Mille-Îles Park regularly: we’re currently working on several major projects!
