LAVAL, October 05, 2021 - The Rencontre Théâtre Ados improvisation league is excited to be back in action for the new season. A launch event for the 2021-2022 season will be held at the Maison des Arts de Laval on October 17 at 1:30pm. It's an opportunity for LIRTA to reconnect with its young improvisers after a year's hiatus due to the pandemic, but also to mark its 20th anniversary by kicking off an extraordinary season!

On the program for this festive afternoon: a great friendly match with 8 former players who left their mark on the league's history, such as comedian Simon-Pierre Lambert, the league's first coordinator, Louis-Philippe Desjardins, the first winner of the Best Player award in 2002 and coach from 2004 to 2005, actress Kim Despatis, winner of the first Best Player award in 2004, as well as many other players.ses stars of the last 20 years. 

LIRTA is the world's largest extracurricular improvisation league for 12-17 year-olds - nearly twenty schools in the Laval, Montreal, Laurentides and Lanaudière regions encourage their students by offering this artistic as well as sporting activity. Over the past 20 years, thousands of young people have been introduced to improvisation - the league has spawned professional artists such as Florence Longpré, Pier-Luc Funk and Mehdi Bousaidan.

Throughout 2021-2022, the youngsters will compete in some 250 inter-school matches - with semi-finals and finals taking place in April to determine the season's winners and reward their individual and collective hard work.

The RTA is committed to the well-being of young people - mentally and physically - and encourages their need for creativity and socialization. Through its improvisation leagues - LIRTA and LIRTA Junior - the RTA offers opportunities to practice an art form that unites all these young people and fosters self-confidence, self-fulfilment and academic success. Teenagers need to feel alive, and now more than ever, the improv league is there for them!

It's now compulsory to reserve your tickets for the match-event on October 17. Tickets are free, but in limited quantities.

About the Rencontre Théâtre Ados

Since 1996, the Rencontre Théâtre Ados has been encouraging exchanges between professional theatre artists and over 15,000 teenagers every year. Presented each spring, its creative theater festival is recognized as the largest showcase of theater for teens in Canada. A leader in cultural mediation, the RTA puts its teen expertise to work for the community by setting up structuring artistic projects, in addition to piloting Quebec's largest improvisation league for high school students, the LIRTA.
