Laval, June 20, 2024 – OnJune 19, Tourisme Laval its annual report and financial statements for the 2023–2024 fiscal year at its annual general meeting. In keeping with tradition, the meeting was followed by the customary annual barbecue, which took place this year in a festive and athletic atmosphere at the famous Club Tomahawk at the Carrefour Multisports—an inspiring venue for rallying players in the tourism industry toward a very promising future.
The year 2023 was marked by a wave of change, with new leadership at the helm of the organization, and by performance figures that nearly matched the record levels of 2019. This renewal is propelling the destination to unprecedented heights and reaffirming its commitment to constant excellence and innovation.
For Tourisme Laval, this resulted in the highest occupancy rate among lodging establishments in Quebec, with the number of overnight stays nearly matching the excellent performance of 2019. Numerous other indicators confirm this trend, with 1.7 million tourists choosing Laval in 2023, compared to 1.8 million before the pandemic. In 2023, tourism spending reached $112.4 million. Hotels hosted 169 events lasting 40 or more overnight stays. Because these events were larger in scale, they attracted a greater number of people.
In Laval, since tourism is a team sport, it was thanks to the collaboration of various stakeholders and its deep knowledge of the local landscape that Tourisme Laval able to launch its “Objectif 2026” Strategic Planduring the year, which sets out an ambitious vision to make Laval a vibrant destination that operates within an innovative ecosystem and is supported by a high-performing organization.
Christine Métayer’s appointmentas President and CEO has brought new energy to the organization. A manager with many talents, she stands out for her leadership, strategic vision, and deeply human approach. She is the ideal person to guide Laval’s tourism industry to new heights and ensure its long-term sustainability.
