Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park's exploration center certified LEED Gold

Laval, March 6, 2020 - Inaugurated in 2019, the Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park exploration center has just been certified LEED Gold by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC). It is the second municipal building to achieve this level of certification.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a rating system that certifies that a building has been designed and constructed according to various sustainability criteria. In order to achieve Gold certification, the main requirements to be met concern ecological site planning (bicycle parking, electric car charging stations, white roof membrane, green roof and green spaces), efficient water management (water-efficient landscaping, rainwater recovery for toilets, low-flow sanitary appliances), optimized energy performance and construction waste management during the worksite (use of materials with recycled, regional and low-emission content).

Choosing to construct a building that meets these requirements not only reduces energy consumption, but also cuts operating costs. Concepts that strategically position windows to promote natural lighting or ensure efficient water management also contribute to a greener environment.
