Do you feel like getting active, taking on a challenge, and participating in a family activity that will let you enjoy some quality time together? Head over to the Clip ‘n Climb climbing center !
It’s a fantastic activity for both kids and adults. Of course, you have to be willing to face your fear of heights a little, but you don’t need to be Spider-Man—I promise. It’s simply about wanting to climb and doing your best. I tried out the activity with my nieces Maëva and Émy and my nephew Jackson, who are 12, 11, and 6 years old, respectively. All three were unanimous in their summary of the experience: “That was so cool, Auntie!” “Can we come back soon?” they added, their eyes sparkling, big smiles on their faces, and fingers crossed in the hope that their wishes would come true.
Clip ‘n climb offers more than 30 themed climbing walls of varying difficulty levels, designed for fun, pushing your limits, and building self-confidence and self-reliance. The environment is colorful, appealing, and stimulating. Among other features, there are walls with ropes, pegs, ladders, and geometric shapes, as well as stopwatches for competitions between participants. There’s even the option to climb in the dark.
People of all ages can climb up to 10 meters high and descend safely. There’s no need to worry—the self-belay system is designed for anyone weighing between 10 and 150 kg. Climbing is simple, safe, and accessible. Aside from the harness, no other equipment or training is required. The activity begins with a 15-minute briefing during which staff explain how to put on the harness and the safety guidelines to follow. The free climbing session lasts 60 minutes—an hour that flies by.
It’s interesting to note that there are signs on the walls suggesting challenges to increase the difficulty level. The many friendly instructors are also on hand to help us, answer our questions, and suggest exercises that will test various physical skills and strategic movements.
Looking for a real adrenaline rush? Why not try freefalling and a backflip?
For the free fall, you must put on a jumpsuit and hold tightly onto a handle as you climb as high as you can (up to a maximum of 10 meters) before letting yourself slide down. As for the dive, you must launch yourself into the air toward a trapeze from a springboard 8 meters above the ground while secured by a harness. Two challenges for the brave, both of which require the purchase of a token.
Climbing at Clip ‘n Climb is a great way to bring people together. It’s a chance to get active, cheer each other on, laugh, and then celebrate your achievements. I still smile when I think back to those shouts of “Go for it, you can do it!”
For those who might be interested, please note that children’s parties and other celebrations can be held at the climbing center. The center also offers climbing lessons for children ages 6 to 12 (Singe Academy) and membership packages for climbing enthusiasts.
Rain or shine, it’s a perfect activity that’s very easy to get into. Clip ‘n Climb is located at Centropolis, right in the heart of downtown Laval. You can get there by car, public transit, or via the free 360 shuttle, by bike, or even on foot if you live nearby. You can even rent a Bixi. Did you know that Laval is now part of the BIXI bike-sharing network? There are no fewer than 26 stations on the island where electric-assist bikes and regular bikes are available for rent. It’s an economical, eco-friendly, and convenient way to get around.
How about trying out theClip ‘n Climb climbing experience*? Go for it! You won’t regret it, we promise! It’s simple and fun: you choose your wall, clip in, climb, then descend using the automated rappel system before moving on to the next wall. There’s something for everyone.
For this activity, please wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement, as well as closed-toe shoes. Please note that there is no minimum age requirement, but we recommend this activity for children ages 4 and up. Accompanying adults who are not participating may access the play area for free. No, no, there’s no reason not to discover this fabulous activity, which was featured in Véro magazine as one of the 10 best things to do during spring break.
