As a little girl, she dreamed of becoming a sea lion trainer. Although that dream didn’t come true, this creative, energetic, and intuitive young girl has since achieved great things. Formerly a biologist, translator, and fitness instructor, Isabelle Landry-Larue is now the owner of a must-visit tourist attraction in Laval: Escalade Clip ’n climb.

This adventure came about because I fell in love with the New Zealand-based Clip ’n Climb concept during a visit to Gatineau with my daughters. “I was immediately hooked on this activity… even with my intense fear of heights! Thanks to the automatic belay system, I realized that with a little courage, I, too, was capable of climbing, and that yes, rock climbing could be accessible to everyone,” says Isabelle.

Instructors… true customer service pros

The Clip ’n Climb team consists of 25 instructors who all have at least one thing in common: they love to have fun! Their goal is to ensure that all climbers have a positive experience and feel proud of themselves. “Our mission is to make sure people are happy with what they’ve accomplished, and our instructors are our best ambassadors,” adds Isabelle. With the little ones, they take the time to build their confidence, give them tips, and above all, encourage them. No wonder the youngest climber to have scaled the walls at Clip ’n climb was just two and a half years old!

Is Clip ‘n Climb just for kids? Oh, no!

Did you know that Clip ’n climb offers adults a unique fitness experience that combines climbing and cross-training? “This training program, offered as guided classes, is sort of our hidden gem. People tend to think of us as a family-friendly activity, but in the evenings, lots of adults come to work out. Clip ’n climb Fit is a complete, low-impact, and safe workout. In addition to floor exercises, participants perform movements on the walls. It’s an intense hour of physical activity, especially considering we have 34 walls!” notes the owner.

Located in the heart of downtown Laval, at Centropolis, Clip ’n climb also welcomes school groups of up to 130 students for a full day—an offering that no other Clip ’n climb location in the world provides. This activity gives teachers the opportunity to promote physical activity among their students, foster the development of self-confidence, and encourage communication among students.

Top-tier projects

With a mission to make rock climbing accessible to everyone, Isabelle and her team plan to open a second indoor climbing center, this time on Montreal’s South Shore. In addition to traditional climbing walls, the facility will feature an American Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course for children and adults.
