Nature and Outdoors
From one end to the other, Quebec is crisscrossed by a common thread—a cycling route that has been connecting landscapes, cities, villages, and stories for 30 years: the Route Verte. Created to allow cyclists to explore the province safely, it winds for over 5,300 kilometers and is a must-visit for lovers of cycling, the outdoors, and local culture. In addition to being a paradise for cyclists and nature lovers, the Route Verte is also an invitation to discover the regions in a different way, to slow down, to soak in the surroundings, and to let yourself be surprised.
In Laval, the Green Route runs along the Rivière des Mille Îles and reveals hidden treasures. Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park offers an immersion in nature, where canoeing and kayaking let you explore a rich ecosystem, observe cute turtles, and escape for a while on a trip out on the water. Further on is the Old Sainte-Rose that captivates with its old-world charm, neoclassical buildings, and timeless atmosphere.
While on the road, you can also treat yourself to a cultural break at the Cosmodome, a museum dedicated to space that features a brand-new exhibition: Destination: Space. And for those who love anything and everything related to health, the Armand-Frappier Health Museum delves into the fascinating world of research and biology.
Further on, the route continues to Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Church, where the neoclassical architecture and coffered ceilings transport visitors to another era. Finally, you can head to the Centre de la nature, a true green oasis in the heart of Laval. With its peaceful pond, shaded trails, and diverse flora and fauna, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a forest bath right in the city!
Taking the Route Verte also means giving yourself the freedom to explore beyond the main route and make a detour to the local farms! Just a short bike ride away, Laval’s farms open their doors to visitors and offer authentic experiences and flavors to discover. Here are a few of our favorites to add to your itinerary:
Here, history is made in the fields of berries and cornstalks growing in the sun. This vegetable farm, one of the oldest in Laval, lets visitors enjoy the fun of picking their own produce and biting into freshly harvested fruit. Not to mention its field shows, homemade ice cream, and a calendar of activities with something for everyone.
Just a little further on, a whole new world awaits nature lovers. At Serres Sylvain Cléroux, plants thrive in the soft light of the greenhouses, offering visitors a breathtaking sight. A great stop to explore flowers and edible plants. While you’re there, why not take the opportunity to bring a pretty bouquet home (in the basket on your bike, just like in the movies)?
Then there’s this unexpected stop in the middle of pastures stretching as far as the eye can see. At Les Agneaux de Laval, you won’t just leave with exceptional farm products—you can also linger and settle in for a picnic in the fields, right alongside the lambs! It’s sure to be an extraordinary experience that will impress young and old alike.
And finally, there’s Forget Farm! Apples, squash, berries… Here, you can pick and taste everything. You’ll also find homemade products and a host of activities that delight families looking for nature and authenticity. A great way to make your bike ride unforgettable.
