Family on the Run
Christine, Mathieu, and their three children

Follow the adventures of Christine Labrie’s family. A historian by training and mother of three young children, she’s also a lover of adventure, the outdoors, and fine dining—and she loves traveling the world with her family. To her, everything is exotic and worth the trip, from Laos to Chisasibi, and from the Canary Islands to Laval!

When Tourisme Laval invited us back to explore their island in winter, we knew right away we’d say yes. Because in just one week during our summer vacation, we hadn’t had time to do everything, and the kids had already asked us to go back. That’s actually one of the perks of traveling close to home—being able to go back easily. So it was with great enthusiasm that we set off for Laval this morning!

We arrived a little before dinner, just in time for a meal at the legendary Gérard Patates. But not just any branch! The one on Boulevard Concorde, which has a certain retro charm.

We managed to get their jukebox working. The kids are used to picking their songs from the family iPod, so that big machine really had them in stitches!

Then we headed to Bernard-Landry Park for our first family snowshoe outing. More experienced snowshoers might prefer to go to Rivière-des-Mille-Îles Park or Bois de l’Équerre, but for an outing with young children, it was perfect. Just big enough to avoid going in circles, and just small enough to walk around without getting discouraged.

Since we’re always so lucky, we found two abandoned snowboards at the top of a nice slope. They were a little beat up, but they held up for nearly an hour, much to our delight. If you go there, don’t forget your snow gear! It’s really a great spot for that, and I’d almost go so far as to say it’s higher than what’s left of Mont Laval!

We wrapped up the evening with a delicious meal at Zibo! restaurant, where we highly recommend trying the pizzas! (Another tip: if their online reservation system says they’re fully booked, you’d be wise to give them a call.)

We're already looking forward to tomorrow!
