Nature and Outdoors
The snowshoes are out of storage, the skates are sharpened, and the hockey sticks are already lying around in the entryway—it’s safe to say winter has arrived! With the first snow comes the imminent arrival of Christmas markets, the holiday season, and, above all, a well-deserved vacation!
After the beautiful fall we’ve had, visitors are now all set to don their stylish recycled fur coats and knitted headbands for the return of the Laval Christmas Market.
With a light dusting of fresh snow and mild temperatures, you’re sure to enjoy a cozy family outing at the Laval Christmas Market on December 1–2–3 and 8–9–10, 2023. Returning to the Centre de la Nature de Laval for its12th edition, this annual gathering of the region’s favorite artisans invites you to two weekends filled with discoveries to place under the tree. In addition to completing your gift list for your little ones’ teachers or for your extended family gift exchange, why not take the opportunity to treat yourself a little?
You’ll find scented candles, unique jewelry, and items to keep you warm all winter long, not to mention the many food stands, each one more tempting than the last. I strongly suggest you don’t arrive at the Laval Christmas Market with a full stomach and that you let yourself be tempted by all the delicacies on offer, including the famous chimney cakes, a Hungarian classic that has made its way to us, much to the delight of our little foodies. You can also grab a bite to eat in the cozy warmth of the heated tent set up for this purpose, or sip on a hot chocolate while warming up by the fire.
As a parent, I always make sure to plan my outings carefully to avoid any unpleasant surprises! Warm clothes are obviously recommended, since you’ll have to walk from the parking lot or nearby streets—for non-island residents—to the Laval Christmas Market. The market is located near the little village, which I strongly recommend you visit during your stay. This place always fills me with nostalgia, since I used to go there regularly with my parents when I could barely take a few steps on my own. I definitely encourage you to travel light, especially so you’ll have plenty of room to bring back all your treasures!
Happy exploring and happy holidays (yes, really—it’s already that time of year!)
