A shopping trip to Laval

After a winter that wasn’t too cold but was downright gray, the sun is finally gracing us with its presence and spoiling us by sticking around past dinnertime. We’ll swap, slowly but surely, our mittens and heavy boots for colorful trench coats and much lighter shoes. Spring has just arrived, and people’s good spirits are already in the air. If there weren’t a single trace of snow left, we’d surely already be sitting on a patio, happily welcoming this newly arrived beautiful weather.

Spring also means cleaning out your closet and shopping, because even if you have a closet full of beautiful dresses and capris, the urge to follow the latest trends is always there!

Nostalgia Takes Center Stage

On your next shopping trip, don’t be surprised. You’re sure to get a sense of déjà vu. For my part, I felt like I’d traveled back in time during my last stop at CF Carrefour Laval. Shiny butterfly-shaped hair clips, cargo pants, and crop tops are back! I suddenly felt like digging out my CD case and strolling through Laval with my high school friends while listening to Destiny’s Child’s biggest hits.

It’s not just millennials who will be able to relive their teenage years— 1970s fashion is also making a big comeback this spring.

Looser-fitting pants and tops are very much in style right now. Wide belts are also making a comeback and are a great way to highlight your waist.”

This year, pastel colors, every shade of blue, and floral patterns are all the rage. When I say flowers, I don’t mean a tiny embroidered tulip on the top of your tank top; I’m talking about hyacinths, roses, and daisies covering your clothes from head to toe!

This spring's fashion trends also feature monochrome looks—outfits in a single color that give you a runway-worthy look.

“Those who found the fashion of recent seasons very boring will be delighted, because we’ll be seeing a lot of fuchsia pink, mauve, cobalt blue, and Kelly green,” personal stylist Julie Bouchard told me. However, “those who are more minimalist in style, as well as fans of capsule wardrobes, will be pleased to see a strong presence of earth tones and neutrals like off-white, beige, khaki, and navy,” adds Julie Bouchard.

Our favorite stores have been thumbing their noses at winter for quite some time now. Store windows have quickly put away the puffer jackets and alpaca sweaters to make room for midi skirts and silk blouses. In any case, it feels so good to see some color again after a winter season that was a bit of a downer.

For its part, Simons makes me want to clear out my closet so I can fill it up again, and it also makes me regret not having kept all my pants from the ’90s and early 2000s.

Where to shop?

Whether you have endless patience for shopping or are the type who knows exactly what you’re looking for, you’re sure to find something to fill your drawers in the various stores throughout the Laval area.

The stores and shops at CF Carrefour Laval and DUO Centre Laval , as well as the shops in Quartier Laval, all offer some really great options. I actually really enjoy combining secondhand clothing and accessories with timeless pieces I find at La Baie orL’Intervalle when I’m looking for THE pair of heels that will turn heads.

The popular Winners store also offers designer items at low prices, as well as fabulous home accessories.

All this to say that spring is finally here, and there’s no reason not to bring out the linen tablecloths, the beautiful wicker wreaths, and the gorgeous maxi dresses. Here we go again for a few months of sunshine, picnics, and shared smiles.
