Nature and Outdoors
Winter and all the joys of the cold season are well and truly here! And this is usually when two types of people emerge: the cozy type and the adventurer. The adventurer, by definition, is someone who wants to play outside despite sub-zero temperatures. And it’s to her that we’re speaking today, offering a host of outdoor activities to enjoy in Laval. Watch out—there are surprises in store!
Urban snowmobiling—yes, it’s possible! Here’s the proof: The Laval Snowmobile Club is one of the largest in Quebec. Founded in 1971, it offers snowmobilers 60 kilometers of maintained, safe, and marked trails that cross Laval from east to west, plus an additional 40 kilometers connecting to neighboring regions. That’s no small feat!
Located on Route 3, near Highway 19 and Boulevard des Mille-Îles, this rest stop is the perfect place to warm up and take a well-deserved break. With its snack bar and free parking, the Laval Snowmobile Club is the ideal spot to plan an outing off the beaten path (figuratively speaking, of course).
You don’t have to wait until spring to go ice fishing, since it’s an activity you can enjoy right in the middle of winter in Laval. That is, provided you’re “self-sufficient”—which means setting up your own ice hut—by obtaining a permit available from the City of Laval. The sites at Berge des Goélands and Berge aux Quatre-Vents are perfect for this unique activity. You can also fish without a hut! Just find or drill a hole in the ice, and with the right gear (a set of ice fishing rods, good mittens, and a pair of very warm boots), your chances of having an inspiring and unforgettable experience are practically 100%.
In winter, Laval’s woods become an oasis for play or relaxation, depending on your mood. However, if you’re looking to get active, here are a few activities you won’t want to miss:

You’re never too old to enjoy tubing or sledding. There’s something for everyone—and plenty of laughs to be had. Laval offers several free sledding hills, including at Bernard-Landry Park, the Centre de la nature, and various other neighborhood parks. In some places, a rental service for sleds and tubes even makes it easier
how things are organized. Once again, check the city’s website for updates on the “piles of snow” and to find out who’s lending out what.
As for skating, the Centre de la nature and the Bernard-Landry Park and Émile Park (outdoor rink Bleu Blanc Bouge) have fantastic ice when conditions permit. They even offer equipment rentals for beginners.
