Fall is harvest season! Apples, pumpkins… and activities. Yes, there are plenty of free activities to enjoy so you can make the most of the last few sunny days before the snow falls. Here are a few to add to your calendar.
Let yourself be enchanted by the instrumental music of the Laval-based duo Émilis, featuring violinist Émile Durocher de Grandpré and guitarist Louis Fortin. This free outdoor concert is your chance to enjoy a gentle, melodious evening while relaxing in the serene setting of Bois de l’Équerre. Bring your camping chairs, your favorite blanket, a hot drink, and savor the moment. – October 11.
Do you like fairy tales and legends? The Night of the Fireflies is just for you. This unique project, presented by Les Conteurs à gages, invites people of all ages to participate in storytelling workshops before attending immersive performances in the forest. With friends or your children, you’ll create a story that will be told to you in the heart of the Laval woods.
The October 14 performance will take place at Bois de l’Équerre, while the October 26 performance will be held at St-Édouard Park. These two free events are a wonderful opportunity to spark your imagination while enjoying the beauty of Laval’s autumn forests. Between workshops and performances, you can also take a stroll through nearby Bernard Landry Park for a peaceful walk beneath the golden-hued trees. – October 14 and 26.
Halloween is coming, and Laval has plenty to send shivers down even the bravest spines. The Haunted Forest Walk, specially designed for children ages 5 to 12, promises an adventure full of mystery and scares in a forest setting. Deep in the dark woods, coyotes howl and strange creatures lurk among the trees and beneath the fallen leaves. Young adventurers will have to overcome their fears and avoid the traps to emerge victorious with some well-deserved candy!
This free activity is perfect for a spooky family outing. Don’t forget your flashlight and costumes! And why not wrap up this Halloween adventure with some fall treats—muffins, pies, hot chocolate, or coffee—in downtown Laval? – November1.
If you’re looking for a more laid-back but equally enriching activity, two free art exhibitions await you at the Maison des Arts de Laval. The exhibition Insaisies byEugenia Reznik explores plant migration, offering fascinating stories of how plants are transported from one place to another. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn how these plants become guardians of memory while admiring an artistic installation full of poetry.
At the same time, the exhibition *L’éternité, si possible* offers a profound reflection on the geopolitical upheavals of our time through the eyes of international artists. The works, co-produced by Laval and Nice, present a multifaceted view of contemporary crises, ranging from the pandemic to the climate crisis and wars.
These exhibitions invite visitors to contemplate and reflect, offering a moment of respite between walks in the Bois de Laval or along one of the riverbanks.
