The year is beginning, and with it comes that familiar moment when we tell ourselves that a change would do us good. This time, no endless list. The goal remains simple: to immerse ourselves in more culture over the next three months. Not to rack up outings, but to have meaningful experiences, come away with stories to share, and break out of the routine. In Laval, the cultural offerings make it easy to turn this resolution into activities that fit seamlessly into your daily life.
When people think of museums, some still picture long, silent galleries. In Laval, the experience often takes on a completely different form. The Cosmodome, for example, isn’t just a space museum: it’s the only Canadian museum dedicated to astronautics and space exploration. Visitors can take part in interactive missions and step into the shoes of a shuttle pilot for an hour.
Just a few steps away, the Armand-Frappier Health Museum offers a hands-on approach to science. Lab workshops and immersive exhibits provide a better understanding of what the body experiences on a daily basis, without getting bogged down in overly theoretical explanations.
For those with a greater interest in history, the Maison André-Benjamin Papineau offers a glimpse back into the 19th century. The rooms depict the daily life of a person from another era, one that is sometimes far removed from today’s urban world.
Even water has become a cultural subject in its own right. The The Water Interpretation Center (C.I.EAU) answers questions we rarely ask ourselves, through fun and interactive experiences that make the subject accessible.
Culture isn't always about being serious. It can also be part of an evening where laughter takes center stage. The Laughing Mondays at Insulaires Microbrasseurs are a great example of this. Every week, established comedians and up-and-coming artists take the stage for a fun, laid-back show—perfect for unwinding after work or starting the week off on a different note.
In the same vein, the broadcaster Co-Motion is offering a varied lineup at the start of 2026, combining comedy, theater, and music. Shows such as Les Boys on January 8 and 9, Lou-Adriane Cassidy on January 10, and appearances by Patrice L’Ecuyer and Simon Gouache at the Théâtre des Muses and the Salle André-Mathieu offer several opportunities to enjoy new cultural experiences.
As for music, the Place Bell isn’t limited to sporting events; it regularly hosts major tours. By the end of spring 2026, several events are already on the schedule.
From Subtronicson January 30 to BritFloydon February 11, including Excisionon February 20 and Josmanon March 14, the lineup covers a wide range of styles. Also on the lineup are bbno$on March 21, Rayeon April 12, PaulMirabelon April 16, Mikaon May 4, and Khalidon May 26. These dates turn cultural resolutions into highlights to look forward to.
To slow down and take the time to observe, the Maison des arts de Laval remains a sure bet. Throughout the season, visual art exhibitions and plays follow one another, presented by artists and companies offering contemporary perspectives.
Exhibitions such as Karen Trask – Penelope’s Trees and Composite Weaves are on display in the the Alfred-Pellan Hall from January 25 to April 12, offering a wonderful opportunity to combine a performance with an art visit.
The 2025–2026 theater season includes, among other things Six° January 4, 5 Bullets in the Head February 5, Street Dance: In My Body February 24, Missed Connections? March 5, Otherwise We’ll Die April 9, and Volunteering April 14.
Making resolutions is great. Turning them into actual cultural outings is even better. By choosing a few activities to spread out over three months, culture naturally becomes part of your routine. Checking the schedule, booking a ticket, marking the date on your calendar: your resolution takes shape, step by step, and becomes a lasting part of your daily life.
