We look forward to the Super Bowl every year! On one side, there are the die-hard fans—the true blue supporters. On the other, there are those who just go with the flow and use the occasion to throw a huge party. No matter which camp you’re in—or even if you’re somewhere in between—here are a few suggestions to make this event memorable.
Sure, you can watch the Super Bowl (or just the halftime show) from the comfort of your living room. On your couch, with a bowl of chips on your lap and a drink in your hand. That’s just as good as any other option. However, if you’re going to experience the Super Bowl vicariously, if you’re going to get that adrenaline rush, you might as well do it in the middle of a crowd that’s on the same wavelength. That’s where the idea of a sports bar comes naturally to mind (off the top of our heads, we think of Boston Pizza, Jack Astor’s or La Piazza). Whether you’re alone, with a partner, or in a group, watch the game and share the excitement with a bunch of strangers.
Have you ever thought about renting a serviced apartment, like the ones available at the Hilton Montreal-Laval or the Residence Inn Laval—not because you’re traveling, but just for the simple pleasure of enjoying a special evening? No? You’ll thank us later for the inspiration. So, as we were saying, to do things a little differently, you can rent one of these rooms and invite your favorite people over to watch the Super Bowl with you. First, you can either cook or order room service, depending on your mood at the time. Second, if the evening gets a little too boozy, you can spend the night there without a worry.
We’ve talked about bars and hotel suites, and we’ve focused on the sweet side of a change of scenery for watching the Super Bowl. Now it’s time to sing the praises of the “living room”! Invite your friends over, but don’t bother cooking. Order pizza from Boston Pizza, bowls from Spice Bros, and smoked meat from Nickel,— in short, whatever suits everyone’s taste. The advantage is that everyone will be happy and find something they like. No disappointments on the menu. As for beer, dare to do something different and pick up a few authentic Lavallois brews at Les Insulaires Microbrewery.
The best way to (sur)vive the Super Bowl might just be to go into deep denial and do something completely different. If you have no interest in football other than the fact that knowing you’ll have the whole evening to yourself to do whatever you want delights you, opt for a treatment at the Spa & Hôtel Le Finlandais or at Amerispa Sheraton Laval. If, by any chance, your moment of relaxation should end before the interminable game concludes (because yes, it’s a possibility), extend the evening by sipping a superb cocktail created by the mixologist at the cozy Bar La Cupola at the Sheraton Laval.
