Soup is the cure for everything. It soothes little sorrows, warms up frozen bodies after a few happy hours playing in the snow, and even helps fight off winter colds. Whether it’s vegetable soup, pea soup, or pistou soup, we love it unconditionally. But our favorite in Laval is onion soup. At least, during the cold season. Here are our favorites.
The Island Microbrewers have been dazzling us with their craft beers for years. Now they’re at it again, serving up an onion soup made with La Péninsule red ale and topped with two kinds of cheese. You’ll rarely have tasted a soup that’s both so flavorful and surprising.
Les Enfants Terribles Brasserie have also realized that winter isn’t really winter without onion soup on the menu. For the season, the restaurant offers a stunning onion soup au gratin as a starter. To finish the meal, treat yourself to the three-cheese mac & cheese with kale and bacon. To work it all off, slip on your best boots and take a walk through the Centropolis. Some wonderful winter gems await you there.
First, you have to try the one from Tire-Bouchon Bistro Parisien. The onion gratin from Les Halles, to give it its full name, is a true Parisian classic. Topped with a slice of bread and cheese, it tastes absolutely heavenly. What’s fascinating about this kind of dish is that it’s just as perfect for lunch as it is for dinner.
What could be better than a classic among classics to treat yourself? The onion soup from Edmond Bistro tastes like childhood memories and comfort. You can detect a hint of beer and a touch of Swiss cheese—in any case, our taste buds love it. To go with it, why not treat yourself to a small glass of red wine from the wine list? It’s a unique way to wrap up a wonderful day in Laval.
