City and countryside on the same island

Family on the Run
Christine, Mathieu, and their three children

We’re once again sharing the stories of a family from Sherbrooke—two adults and three children—who came to spend a week in the Laval area during their summer vacation. Here is the fascinating account of the “Family on the Run”’s stay!

Contrary to popular belief, Laval isn’t just a commuter town, and I think we’ve managed to show you that since the start of the week. But it’s not just a city—it’s also the countryside!

Just step away from the main streets, and in just a few minutes from Centropolis, you’ll find yourself in the middle of open fields!

So we spent part of our Sunday exploring Laval’s food production. There’s no shortage of family farms here!

We started with a quick visit to the Fromagerie du Vieux St-François, where the goats didn’t hesitate to come right up to us and let the kids pet them!

We just took a self-guided tour since we didn’t have enough time to see everything, but if you’re a fan of goat cheese, you should know that several tour and tasting packages are available from June through October. The cheesemaker was kind enough to let us sample a few of their cheeses anyway!

Their selection of products is impressive! They even have gelato!

We also stopped by one of the stands at Marineau Farm.New this year is a food truck serving artisanal ice cream made with fresh fruit from the harvest—a stop the whole family will love!

The farm grows fruits and vegetables, and their displays are sure to whet your appetite!

They offer a wide variety of processed foods with charming labels—perfect for gift-giving!

At the kiosk on Dagenais Boulevard, there’s even a playground for the kids—and an old tractor they can climb on!

It was a little too sunny for our liking for picking our own fruit, so we decided to enjoy some berries in the shade at a picnic table instead.

If we lived in Laval, we’d definitely stop by this charming little market regularly to do our shopping!
