Born in 1939, André-Pierre Arnal was one of the founders of Supports/Surfaces, a French art group active from 1966 to 1970. This avant-garde group, made up of twelve members from the south of France, influenced the literary and cinematographic creation of the period by deconstructing painting in order to reconstruct it.

André-Pierre Arnal explores the material properties of paint, focusing on the folds of canvas. Since the 1980s, he has been using a transitional plastic surface, creating an acrylic skin transferred onto various supports.

Arnal and Marcel Saint-Pierre(on show at Salle Alfred-Pellan) share the idea of starting a painting on plastic before returning to canvas.
