Rhapsodie

Maison des arts de Laval

Description

Driven by an indomitable ardor, 20 performers find themselves encircled by the audience, witnessing the intrinsic strength of the group and the mass movement taking shape.

Imbued with hypnotic, essential music, the bodies abandon themselves, guided by a subversive impulse. Manifestation, gathering or ritual, the communion of these spirits is captivating.

Fascinated by dance floors and convinced that dance fulfills a fundamental, irrational need, Sylvain Émard's work is a snapshot of a society in constant upheaval.

A tribute to liberating dance, Rhapsodie celebrates the visceral, instinctive side of beings who don't watch themselves dance. As the tableaux evolve to the rhythm of the music, it is the essence of a changing humanity that emanates from the transfixed performers. A human discharge that hits home.

A prolific artist of international renown, Sylvain Émard is the recipient of several awards, including the prestigious Jean A. Chalmers Award in 1996 for his body of work.
