Surabhi Ghosh – Le poids de nos mythes

Description

Surabhi Ghosh's work explores the relationship between materials and their contested cultural meanings. In The Weight of Our Myths, Ghosh looks at the construction of nationalist narratives and their role in overlapping projects of political dispossession.

Working primarily with textile materials and methods such as glass beads, reused garments and sewing, Ghosh uses repetition and pattern to evoke the cyclical history of protectionist political discourse. In her site-specific installations, she transforms the architecture of the room into a place where contradictory narratives meet, and where textile objects act as polyvalent metaphors for the burdens that the body - the self and the collective political entity - must bear.

Surabhi Ghosh uses textiles to reflect on the precariousness of the fictional borders of nationalism.
