BIXI Makes a Strong Comeback in Laval

20 stations and 215 bikes throughout the area

Laval, April 14, 2022 — The BIXI season in Laval is off to a great start with a rapid expansion of the bike-sharing network. While last year began with 6 stations and 55 bikes, the new season is off to a flying start with 20 stations and 215 bikes—including 60 electric bikes available every day—more than tripling the previous offering.

Bike-sharing programs, which have been gradually rolled out in Laval since 2019, are a significant addition to the range of transportation options available to residents, helping to improve their mobility and reduce their environmental footprint.

“Combating climate change is a priority for our administration. Expanding the BIXI network will enable more Laval residents to use active transportation to get around, thereby reducing our environmental footprint. This is all the more important given that, in Laval, 70% of greenhouse gas emissions come from motorized transportation. With this in mind, it makes perfect sense to continue expanding the BIXI network in Laval in the coming years.”

— Vasilios Karidogiannis, city council member for L’Abord-à-Plouffe and head of active mobility

“We’re very pleased to once again be able to launch the BIXI service early this year! Our users will be able to fully enjoy this long-awaited moment over the Easter long weekend and try out our e-bikes, if they haven’t already.”

— Christian Vermette, Executive Director of BIXI Montréal

Bikes in the BIXI network are available each year as soon as the weather permits (or no later than April 15) through November 15. To make your experience easier, we recommend downloading the BIXI mobile app in advance; it is required to rent an electric bike (as is wearing a helmet). Bikes can be returned to any docking station at BIXI locations in Laval, Montreal, or Longueuil.

The City of Laval’s 2021 purchases of bike-sharing stations and bicycles received financial support from the Ministry of Transportation as part of its Financial Assistance Program for the Development of Bike-Sharing Services.
