December 2022 in Laval: thawing temperatures and a tourist boom

Laval, January 23, 2023 - Against all expectations, after two years of uncertainty, December 2022 was certainly a successful month for Laval's tourism industry. As an urban destination, Laval benefited from the mild weather that prevailed during the holiday season.

As a result, its many domestic attractions attracted large numbers of customers looking for entertainment other than winter sports. This translated into a hotel occupancy rate of 66.6% in December, exceeding the 62.2% achieved in December 2019 and 48.8% in 2021. "We're surpassing the success of 2019, it's a great growth," observes Annie-Eve Frigon, vice-president of sales and marketing at Groupe Hôtelier Grand Château, which includes the Sheraton and Hilton Laval.

As the year 2022 draws to a close, Laval is a delight for young and old alike, who have taken advantage of the vacation break to come and play indoors, climb walls, surf, experience the weightlessness of a parachute jump, discover the secrets of space, and stimulate their neurons in escape games, among other activities. Illumi, now in its fourth year, continues to attract spectators of all ages who marvel at this multimedia sound and light show.

" In December 2022, ridership at our ticketed attractions surpassed 2019 results, which is very exciting for our climbing center and the Laval tourism industry in general." quotes Daniel Mongrain, President, Clip 'n climb Laval.

Winter 2023 in Laval is also shaping up to be a very festive time, with three events attracting a wide variety of visitors to the region.

Laval en Blanc returns in full force to the Centre de la nature on January 27, 28 and 29, with a dazzling program including snow sculptures, snowball fights, obstacle courses, mini zip lines, tent shows, mobile circus performances, fireworks and more.

February 3, 4 and 5 will see the second edition of the Orchestre symphonique de Laval's Winter Classical Festival. This event, which combines concerts and a variety of activities, literature, theater, art and poetry, appeals to all generations.

The American Hockey League All-Star Classic will be held at Place Bell on February 4, 5 and 6. In fact, this is the very first time in its history that the event will be held on Quebec soil, and in Laval no less! The American Hockey League's top professional field hockey prospects will be in attendance.

Winter in Laval, now!
