The City acquires a waterfront lot in Laval-Ouest to create a public shoreline

Laval, May 3, 2022 - The municipal public domain has been enriched by 5,404.50m2 thanks to the acquisition of land located east of boulevard Arthur-Sauvé, at the tip of the berge des Goélands. On April 27, the Executive Committee ratified the acquisition of this land belonging to the Ministère de l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques for $1,108.73. Representing the entrance to the city from the Arthur-Sauvé bridge, this site in the heart of nature will be embellished and renaturalized over the next few years to make it accessible and pleasant for residents.

"What excellent news for the people of Laval! The berge des Goélands is a great place to enjoy the splendid scenery of the Rivière des Mille Îles. Protecting and enhancing this unique riverbank is one of the main reasons I got involved in politics. I'm delighted that the city has acquired this land to give it back to the public.

- Yannick Langlois, L'Orée-des-Bois councillor

In 2017, the City had already acquired 7,553m2 of land on this site. This new acquisition consolidates a public shoreline and contributes to the city's ambition to give back the riverbanks to the citizens of Laval, in addition to being part of Laval's Green and Blue Fabric. Demineralization work to remove a parking lot and the foundations of an old building has also taken place over the past two years.
