The C.I.EAU presents: Welcome to Eauville, an immersive water-themed experience
The Laval Water Interpretation Centre invites the public to an unforgettable day of adventure, discovery, and learning about water and climate change on Saturday, August 12, at the Berge des baigneurs in Laval.
Laval, July 27, 2023 – As summer sets in and more and more Quebec municipalities face water-related challenges, the Laval Water Interpretation Centre (C.I.EAU) is hosting a festive day of discovery and awareness-raising about water resources and climate change to address questions raised by issues such as overflows, flooding, shortages, and declining water quality—phenomena that are greatly amplified by climate change.
Around 1916, the Rivière-des-Mille-Îles riverbank was a popular vacation spot. On August 12 at 10 a.m., the C.I.EAU invites the residents of Eauville to ask themselves: Why has the water become unsuitable for swimming, and what can we do together to remedy this?
On this occasion, a captivating immersive experience awaits participants on the Berge des baigneurs, featuring fun activities, science-themed events, and a major exhibition that will help everyone understand the issue and contribute ideas for improving water quality—all while having fun.

"Welcome to Eauville " also offers young people and teenagers the opportunity to meet professionals in the water industry, helping them discover the many career opportunities in this field.
As part of the festivities, Laval’s science museums will join forces with C.I.EAU: Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille Îles | Éco-Nature with its exhibition “Incredible but True!” and activities, the Armand-Frappier Health Museum and its new activity “On your marks, get set… drink water!”, as well as the Cosmodome will be with us until the Perseid meteor shower.
The Water Interpretation Centre presents “Welcome to Eauville,” a project made possible through the “Support for Regional Development” component of the Regions and Rural Areas Fund administered by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
“Our government is proud to provide financial support to the Laval Water Interpretation Center in its efforts to raise public awareness of water-related issues caused by climate change. These challenges affect us all directly. Organizing an interactive family day on this topic is a great way to raise awareness and work toward improving the quality of this vital natural resource,” said Andrée Laforest, Minister of Municipal Affairs.
Four highlights will mark the day, which begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 12 (postponed to Sunday, August 13 in case of rain):
1- Welcome to the village of Eauville, where you’ll find:
Science activities organized by C.I.EAU and participating organizations. These interactive science activities will give people of all ages the chance to explore the world of water-related science and learn how small actions can make a big difference—all while having fun!
2. Treasure hunts:
Fun, interactive, and showcasing both local heritage and biodiversity, these activities will allow families to explore the riverbanks at their own pace in a recreational setting. A special program focused on climate change challenges and water technologies will be offered to teenagers (ages 14 and up), featuring athletic challenges to tackle.
Younger children aren’t left out either; they’ll have the chance to solve water-saving challenges on the Écol’eau trail, where they’ll meet the characters from Fantastik’eau!
3- A captivating exhibition on river water quality, from the past to the present, will take visitors on a journey through time to understand the evolution of water treatment and innovative solutions for a sustainable future. A virtual reality tour of a drinking water treatment plant will immerse you in a fascinating world, helping you understand how it all works.
4- The Perseid meteor shower will delight astronomy enthusiasts as they gaze at the night sky and learn about the incredible journey of water through space.
The "Welcome to Eauville" event is free for everyone and will also include a complimentary meal for participants who register online and complete the scavenger hunt; the event will conclude with a raffle featuring prizes for all participants.
This one-of-a-kind family event promises an immersive and captivating experience centered on water and the conservation of this precious resource.
Beyond simply providing a fun, festive day full of adventure, our goal is to raise public awareness about water quality. Through our actions, we can all make a difference and restore clean water for swimming… one drop at a time!
