The summer rest stops are back twice!

Laval, June 9, 2021 - Innovative, original and comfortable, the eight summer rest areas will gradually be rolled out across Laval. The project was launched last summer to provide Laval residents with new public spaces during the pandemic. These temporary, fun and pleasant facilities were created by Quebec designers, and for their return, they have been enhanced by a number of new features. The rest stops are a great way to make the most of the summer and discover Laval's neighbourhoods during a day of exploration close to home, with family and friends, while respecting health regulations.

"The possibility of planning outings and vacations away from home is still fragile. The development of these eight sites allows all generations of Laval residents to get away from their daily routine, explore their city, visit neighborhoods and make them their own. The city has so many local attractions to enjoy this summer, and the rest stops are wonderful starting points for discovering them. Enjoy!"

- Stéphane Boyer, Deputy Mayor and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee

Gradual roll-out in neighbourhoods
Four of last summer's rest areas are back, and the addition of new elements (artistic contemplation areas, furniture, shaded areas and other comfort features) will be phased in over the coming weeks. These evolving installations with their unique and attractive designs are more numerous this year. As a result, new sites just as inspiring as those renewed will gradually be set up over the coming weeks. Good news: many of these sites will be accessible throughout the autumn.

1. Marcel-Gamache Park, Sainte-Dorothée district ;
2. Émile-Nelligan library, Laval-des-Rapides district;
3. Saint-Louis-de-Montfort community center, Pont-Viau district;
4. Saint-Vincent-de-Paul church, in the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul district;
5. Berge aux Quatre-Vents, Laval-Ouest district;
6. De la Concorde metro station public square, Laval-des-Rapides district;
7. Berge des Écores, Duvernay district;
8. Site of the former Saint-Noël-Chabanel community center, Saint-François district.

What's new: art and the storytelling trail
During the summer, each of the rest stops will feature an area for artistic contemplation, showcasing the work of up-and-coming and renowned illustrators from all horizons. In particular, you'll be able to admire the work of Laval artists such as Luc Melanson and Katy Lemay.

Over the next few weeks, Bibliothèques de Laval will be showcasing the children's book Les hauts et les bas d'Amanda (Amanda's ups and downs) via an intriguing storytelling trail integrated into the landscaping of the Marcel-Gamache park, the Émile-Nelligan library and the Écores riverbank.

Visitors to the summer stops are also invited to encourage local shops. In fact, these areas are ideal for take-away meals.
