Musée Armand-Frappier: work begins

Construction of the Musée Armand-Frappier's future facilities began the week of July 20, 2020. The $13.9 million project includes the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art museological equipment. The 1,800-square-metre building will be adjacent to Cosmodome.

"The new building will be designed to ensure architectural and urbanistic integration with the surrounding environment. The concept focuses on the quality of the spaces and positioning the site as a unique tourist attraction, both regionally and nationally," said Aram Elagoz, Renaud's city councillor responsible for museums and libraries.

The new building will house exhibition rooms, laboratories and a multi-purpose hall. The lobby, ticket office, boutique and checkroom will be shared with Cosmodome. Opening is scheduled for autumn 2021.

"These new facilities adjacent to Cosmodome will enable our institution to better fulfill its mission of fostering understanding of the sciences related to human health in order to contribute to improving the well-being of individuals and communities. The new building will enable us to welcome more visitors and offer them an enhanced experience in premises adapted to museum functions. It will also enable us to generate increased self-financing to ensure the Museum's long-term future. All the Museum's stakeholders warmly thank Ville de Laval and Canadian Heritage for making this major project possible!" confirmed the Museum's General Manager, Guylaine Archambault.

The new building is part of Laval's strategic plan, Urbaine de nature, and is part of the company's efforts to create a hub for scientific culture in the downtown area.

This project is made possible in part through the financial participation of Canadian Heritage.

"Our government is proud to support this project to build and relocate the Musée Armand-Frappier, which will share some of its spaces with Cosmodome. Once completed, the facility will house exhibition rooms and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art museological equipment. This new address will enable the CIBAF to pursue its mission by welcoming more curious visitors and those passionate about scientific issues," said the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
