Armand-Frappier Museum: Construction has begun

Construction on the future Armand-Frappier Museum facilities began during the week of July 20, 2020. This $13.9 million project includes, among other things, the acquisition and installation of state-of-the-art museum equipment. The 1,800-square-meter building will be located next to Cosmodome.

“The new building will be designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment, both architecturally and urbanistically. The concept focuses on the quality of the spaces and aims to position the site as a unique tourist attraction, both regionally and nationally,” said Aram Elagoz, Renaud’s city council member in charge of museums and libraries.

The new building will house exhibition halls, laboratories, and a multipurpose room, among other facilities. The lobby, ticket office, gift shop, and coat check will be shared with the Cosmodome. The opening is scheduled for fall 2021.

“These new facilities adjacent to Cosmodome our institution to better fulfill its mission: to promote understanding of the sciences related to human health in order to contribute to improving the well-being of individuals and communities. The new building will indeed allow us to welcome more visitors and offer them an enhanced experience in spaces designed for museum functions. It will also generate increased self-funding to ensure the Museum’s long-term sustainability. All of the Museum’s stakeholders warmly thank the City of Laval and Canadian Heritage for making this major project possible!” confirmed the Museum’s Executive Director, Guylaine Archambault.

This project is part of Laval’s strategic plan, “Urbaine de nature,” and is one of the initiatives aimed at creating a hub for scientific culture in the downtown area.

This project is made possible in part by funding from Canadian Heritage.

“Our government is proud to support this project to build and relocate the Armand-Frappier Museum, which will share some of its spaces with the Cosmodome. “Once construction is complete, the facility will house exhibition halls and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art museum technology. This new location will enable CIBAF to continue its mission by welcoming even more curious visitors and science enthusiasts,” said the Honorable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
