Cultural Recovery Plan - Important support for the activities of science and technology museums
LAVAL, QC, July 7, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - The Minister of Culture and Communications,Ms. Nathalie Roy, is pleased to announce financial support of nearly $3.7 million for science and technology museum institutions (STMIs), which are now supported in their mission by the Ministry of Culture and Communications. The announcement was made in the company of the MNA for Sainte-Rose, Mr. Christopher Skeete, at the Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles.
Anxious to ensure their proper functioning in 2020-2021, the Minister insisted that financial assistance be quickly provided to the 16 IMVSTs across Quebec, including an envelope of $950,000 for the IMVSTs located in the Laval region. For the next 4 years, the total amount granted to scientific museology will be $20 million.
As part of the Economic Recovery Plan for the cultural sector, the 16 IMVSTs will also be able to benefit from a one-time additional envelope of $5.03 million that will be used to improve operating assistance in the museum sector.
The new operating assistance granted to the 16 IMVSTs is in addition to the support granted to 96 museum institutions through the Operating Assistance for Museum Institutions program, and means that more than 110 museum institutions of all vocations will now be financially supported by the Ministère, throughout Quebec. This program will ultimately include a component for IMVSTs.

Quotes:
"Our government recognizes the essential contribution of scientific museology in its roles of popularization, education, research, promotion and conservation. In the current pandemic context, I wanted us to act quickly to financially support these museum institutions that have been weakened by the health crisis. Their mission is in line with our objective to promote the Quebec culture we are proud of and to make it accessible, and we will be happy to support them over the next five years.
Nathalie Roy, Minister of Culture and Communications
"The Quebec government is pleased to support science and technology museums in their efforts to recover. The economic recovery plan developed by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Ministère des Finances and implemented in June aims to ensure that the cultural community is well equipped to deal with the consequences of this health crisis and once again become an important economic driver in Quebec."
Eric Girard, Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for the Laval region
"It is with great pleasure that I welcome the financial assistance for science and technology museum institutions, which has just been announced by the Minister of Culture and Communications. Thanks to this support, institutions in our region, such as the Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles and the Centre d'interprétation de l'eau, both located in the riding of Sainte-Rose, will be able to continue their activities and their mission, to the great pleasure of Quebecers. They will thus continue to make Laval shine in the scientific museum landscape of Quebec.
Christopher Skeete, MP for Saint Rose
The Economic Recovery Plan for the Cultural Sector, announced on June1, 2009, includes specific measures that apply to museums. The Ministère de la Culture et des Communications worked closely with the Ministère des Finances to implement this important plan, which has a budget of $400 million.
Finally, science and technology museums that wish to do so may, when ready, participate in the free admission on the first Sunday of the month.
