Thrilling emotions and experiences

Laval, June1, 2023 - For its 37th season, the MDA invites Laval residents to discover the best in multidisciplinary contemporary art. Dance, theater, circus, storytelling, visual arts and much more will be presented in a warm and friendly setting. More than twenty surprising shows, seven free exhibitions at the Salle Alfred-Pellan and the Foyer du théâtre des Muses, plus a wide range of artistic mediation activities to give access to the underside of contemporary creation.

Eleven performing arts shows on the program will provide experiences as unique as they are memorable. The season kicks off with Dorothy Dix's play Les dix commandements, starring Julie Le Breton, followed by Seuils, by Laval company Théâtre Incliné, and Tentacle Tribe's street dance and martial arts show Prism.

The circus art of Robot infidèle will then take over the stage, and two storytelling shows will be presented in a 5 à 7 format: Celles qui veillent, by Anne Borlée, and Le Ruisseau, by François Lavallée. The second half of the season features Théâtre PÀP 's stage adaptation of the novel Vous êtes animal, and dance performances Le sacre de Lila, by Ismaël Mouaraki, and Sylvain Émard Danse's Rhapsodie, with 20 performers on stage. The black comedy Ulster American, by La Manufacture, and the play Maurice, by Théâtre Bienvenue aux dames, also promise to be highlights.

Visual arts at Salle Alfred-Pellan

The Salle Alfred-Pellan at the MDA, the region's accredited visual arts museum, will be presenting seven free exhibitions over the course of the season. This fall, the exhibition Libérez la peinture! presented by curator Éric Devlin will focus on the first 15 years of the career of Laval artist Marcel Saint-Pierre. The exhibition Passeurs Passeuses, by Denis Rousseau and six participating artists, will be presented in the second half of the season. The production will continue in the Foyer of the Théâtre des Muses in the second half. To close the season, the works of Tout à la fois, by Libby Hague, will introduce visitors to the medium of paper in a surprising way. In parallel, exhibitions by artists Jocelyne Thibault, André-Pierre Arnal and Julie Picard will be presented at the Foyer.

Shows for Young Audiences

MDA stands out for its high quality youth program, with 14 shows in a variety of disciplines (song, circus, storytelling, puppetry, theater): Les Petites Tounes, Le Potager, Archipel, Octave, Ceux qui n'existent pas, Plastique, La nuit du caribou, Tonne de briques, Celle qui marche loin, Glitch, Alice de l'autre côté, Brume and Papa Ours. As for the puppet show L'île aux patates , it will be presented in various venues as part of MDA en tournée.
