Zoom Art: an art project around the Montmorency metro station

Laval, August 31, 2021 - Ville de Laval unveils Zoom Art, an art project deployed in the quadrilateral surrounding the Montmorency metro and open to all from September 10 to October 3. Created by eleven artists from Laval, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, the contemporary art images integrated into the exhibition echo the plurality of Laval's population. Residents will be able to admire these works in the form of giant posters displayed inside the metro, on billboards and on bus shelters.

The aim of this project is to make contemporary art more accessible to the general public, and to inspire a sense of discovery, amazement and wonder. The 30 images in the exhibition, which can be found on 42 different media, have been selected around the theme of magic realism, so that each work possesses a strong power of evocation and strangeness.

"My colleague Aline Dib, city councillor for Saint-Martin and responsible for cultural affairs, and I think it's great that the people of Laval can rub shoulders with artistic talent from home and abroad, and see that art is as accessible in museums as it is on the street. The superb rendering of the Zoom Art project's works of art on street furniture and inside the metro demonstrates the full range of exhibition possibilities available to citizens."
- Stéphane Boyer, Deputy Mayor and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee

This year, Zoom Art can be seen on a variety of advertising media: 3 oversized posters near the Montmorency metro turnstiles, 8 light boxes on the Montmorency metro platforms, 13 bus shelters and 2 billboards lining major boulevards. The images are accompanied by short introductory texts to help you discover the artist and his work. Once again this year, a geographical map is available online, offering citizens the chance to discover the Zoom Art project in urban itinerary mode. These artistic oases invite citizens to reflect, escape and experience different emotions on their daily journeys by foot, bike, metro, bus or car.

In the wake of this pandemic year, the Zoom Art project offers an artistic balm. This cultural initiative is part of the Journées de la culture, with its mediation component (guided tours and artist talks). It is also in line with the vision of Métamorphoses créatives, which aims to revitalize and develop Laval's downtown area through innovative cultural offerings that focus on the human experience.
