In the same breath, Mr. Boyer adds that a final report will be submitted towards the end of the summer, bringing together the main recommendations of the tour, many of which are already being analyzed by the various Ville de Laval departments. In fact, Mr. Boyer has the privilege of announcing today the materialization of a first idea: a $96,000 grant to Tourisme Laval to promote regional tourism.

TABLING OF LATEST PROGRESS REPORT: ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
The progress report on the environment, co-authored by Virginie Dufour as head of the environmental protection file, contains 11 recommendations on a variety of subjects, including :

  • Transportation
  • Urban planning
  • Enhancing and managing natural environments
  • The city's environmental impact

Recommendations include continuing the city's efforts towards greener land-use planning, encouraging ecotourism by preserving natural environments, and working to integrate eco-taxation into municipal practices.

"Protecting the environment is the challenge of our century. We don't have the luxury of losing a single good idea, and we must always remain in listening mode. This progress report unequivocally demonstrates our intention to improve on the work we've already started," says Virginie Dufour, member of the executive committee responsible for environmental issues.

LAVAL'S RELAUNCH TOUR: A SUCCESSFUL CHALLENGE FOR STÉPHANE BOYER
It's done! Over the past few weeks, Stéphane Boyer and his colleagues have met with representatives of 118 organizations in almost as many days, to reflect on the subject of Laval's relaunch.

"I didn't doubt it, but it was very motivating to see all the energy and imagination of our city's stakeholders. These meetings have enabled concrete measures to emerge, some of which have already been implemented to improve the quality of life in Laval," sums up Stéphane Boyer.

"I congratulate Mr. Boyer on his colossal work. It was an impressive task to hold these meetings, especially at a time of pandemic. I'm certain that all the wisdom gleaned from these exchanges will enable us to make better decisions in the coming months and years," said Marc Demers, Mayor of Laval.

96,000 FOR TOURISME LAVAL: AN IDEA DRAWN FROM THE CONSULTATION PROCESS
This is the very first idea to be announced from the Laval Relance tour. The sum of $96,000 will enable Tourisme Laval to give a boost to the new tourist season.

"The sum we're devoting to Tourisme Laval comes from the $1.8 million reserve fund I had the city set up for post-pandemic recovery. I'm delighted that this contingency fund is now enabling us to give new impetus to one of the driving forces behind Laval's economy, which generates significant spin-offs for our merchants," says Stéphane Boyer.

Financial assistance from Ville de Laval will act as a lever to increase the scope of actions and awareness of the destination through a promotional campaign orchestrated by Tourisme Laval. This campaign will increase the visibility of our tourist attractions, hotels, restaurants, agri-tourism products, museums, festivals and parks. The money invested will strengthen Laval's presence and impact on the regional and provincial scene, while positioning Laval's tourism businesses in local markets with targeted investments from Tourisme Laval , which will be subsidized by Ville de Laval.

"Thanks to its tourist attractions, Laval is an exceptional island. With this campaign, we'll be highlighting all our assets, reminding you that they're accessible and offered by a very welcoming population. In short, you've got a jewel right next door to you, so take advantage of it!" says Sandra El-Helou, Souvenir-Labelle district councillor, responsible for the tourism file and member of Tourisme Laval's Board of Directors.

A FINAL REPORT ON THE TOUR WILL BE SUBMITTED AT THE END OF THE SUMMER
When Laval mayor Marc Demers mandated his economic development officer to go out into the field, it was to gather all the best ideas for the benefit of all Laval residents.

"This wisdom must not be shelved. We've already started announcing the realization of some of these ideas, and we don't intend to stop there," says Mr. Demers.

The final consolidated report will be published towards the end of the summer.
