History and heritage in Laval
Once again, we're bringing you the story of a family from Sherbrooke - two adults and three children - who spent a week in the Laval region during their summer vacation. Here's the fascinating story of the Family on the Run!
This morning, we started the day with an activity organized by the ArtHist Network, les virées patrimonialeswhich is dedicated to promoting the heritage of Laval's various neighbourhoods. Their wide-ranging program is aimed at all audiences, and we'd decided on an activity designed especially for young children: "Ti-Jos connaissant et ses futurs apprentis" ("Ti-Jos knowing and his future apprentices").
NB. This route is not available in 2023. Discover the three colorful, entertaining and instructive tours that await you this year.
Even before the activity began, the children were captivated by the character of Ti-Jos, who spoke with an early 20th-century accent. Ti-Jos is a day laborer, and by talking about his trade, he introduces children (and parents) to many aspects of life in Sainte-Rose in 1925. Did you know that ice carved from the Mille-Îles River could be stored in warehouses for up to a year, and supplied Montreal markets? Ti-Jos also invited children to try out his saw and ice tongs, much to their delight.
After receiving our apprenticeship certificates, we decided toexplore old Sainte-Rosewith its beautiful old houses.
One of them is home to a lovely dairy bar where sorbets and gelatos are homemade: Le Berlingot. When Eva chose lemon, we were skeptical, but she seemed delighted!
We also enjoyed a guided tour of the city at dusk.
A beautiful and instructive day!
