As a little girl, she dreamed of being a sea lion trainer. Although this dream didn't come true, this creative, active and instinctive little girl has since accomplished many wonderful projects. Formerly a biologist, translator and fitness instructor, Isabelle Landry-Larue is now the owner of a must-see Laval tourist attraction, Escalade Clip 'n climb.

This adventure was the result of falling in love with the Clip 'n climb concept from New Zealand during a visit to Gatineau with her daughters. "I immediately fell in love with the activity... even with my great fear of heights! Thanks to the automatic belay system, I realized that, with a little courage, I could climb too, and that climbing could be accessible to everyone," says Isabelle.

Instructors... real customer service beasts

The Clip 'n climb team is made up of 25 instructors, all of whom have at least one thing in common: they love to have fun! Their goal is to ensure that all climbers have a positive experience and feel proud of themselves. "Our mission is to make sure people are happy with what they've achieved, and our instructors are our best ambassadors," adds Isabelle. With the little ones, they take the time to build their confidence, give them tips and, above all, encourage them. Not surprisingly, the youngest climber ever to scale the Clip 'n climb walls was 2.5 years old!

Clip 'n climb just for kids? Hell no!

Did you know that Clip 'n climb offers adults a unique fitness experience, a cross between climbing and cross-training? "This training program, given in the form of supervised classes, is in a way our hidden treasure. People associate us more with a family activity, but in the evenings, many adults come to train. Clip 'n climb Fit is a complete, non-impact, safe physical workout. In addition to floor exercises, people have to perform movements on the walls. It's an intensive hour of physical activity, especially when you consider that we have 34 walls," says the owner.

Located in the heart of downtown Laval, in Centropolis, Clip 'n climb also welcomes school groups of up to 130 students for a day, an offer that no other Clip 'n climb in the world offers. This activity is an opportunity for teachers to promote physical exercise to their groups, foster the development of self-confidence and encourage communication between students.

Projects at the top

With a mission to make climbing accessible to all, Isabelle and her team plan to open a second indoor climbing center, this time on Montreal's South Shore. In addition to traditional climbing walls, there will be an American Ninja Warrior-style course for children and adults.
