The start of the school year is fast approaching, marking the end of summer. Students are wrapping up their summer jobs and want to treat themselves or simply enjoy the last few days of vacation with friends before heading back to school. Day camps end in early August, leaving parents and grandparents looking for ideas to keep the little ones entertained. And since the weather is unpredictable, I suggest you escape the capricious skies by discovering our indoor attractions in Laval—where you’ll stay dry and cool in air-conditioned comfort!
If you love butterflies, this attraction is for you. BFly invites you into its magical aviary, made up of four domes, and its movie theater. Using a foam stick dipped in sugar, you’ll attract the butterflies to you. Kids will love the experience!
Everyone knows where the legendary Laval rocket is located, but most of you have never been there. This summer, take a moment to put on your astronaut suit and blast off to Mars at the Cosmodome. No one can remain indifferent to the solar system and the vastness of the universe. You’ll learn a whole host of new facts and spark your little ones’ curiosity. While you’re there, I recommend ordering a “dry ice” ice cream sandwich—just like the ones astronauts eat. Yum!
To let loose before school starts, invite your friends over for a day at Zone 15 where you can play mini-putt, laser tag, foosball, pool, board games, and even dive into the world of virtual reality. Families will also find plenty to enjoy. Young teens will be thrilled by the variety of activities on offer, and parents can take part in a foosball tournament or simply relax in the air-conditioned comfort.
In the age of escape rooms, Laval is definitely the go-to region. Le Cube Secret, located in the industrial district, welcomes you into its mysterious and intriguing rooms. You’ll have exactly one hour to solve the puzzle and escape. Round up everyone who doesn’t have a pool and spend an hour in the air-conditioned comfort. Wonderful, isn’t it!
What would Laval be without the water that surrounds it? We often take our drinking water for granted and mistakenly believe that it is an inexhaustible resource. I’m currently teaching my daughters not to let the water run while they brush their teeth and how long it takes to wash their hands properly without wasting enough water to fill the Nile. They’re still too young to fully understand, but the message is getting across. The Water Interpretation Center (C.I.EAU), located in Old Sainte-Rose, is the perfect place to deepen your understanding of the water we use. A tour of the wastewater treatment plant is a must for everyone. Afterward, you can enjoy the riverbanks with a nice picnic and watch the many families of geese that come there to drink.
Do you secretly dream of becoming a pilot, or has your little girl built a replica cockpit out of items from the recycling bin? AéroSim Experience is a wonderful surprise you could treat yourself—or her—to. This professional-grade simulator will make you feel like you’re actually flying a Boeing 737 and F-18 fighter jets. With over 24,000 destinations and a full-scale cockpit, all you have to do is put on your pilot’s shirt, and you’re all set.
A day of indoor activities can be just as exciting as the rest of your summer plans. Take advantage of the unpredictable weather to take your little ones to Funtropolis, the youth entertainment center featuring Canada’s largest Ball-O-Cité ball pit attraction. Multi-level play structures, slides, a ball pit, mazes, trampolines, zip lines, bumper cars, and more. They’ll feel like it’s their birthday!
Another great option available to everyone is to try your hand at an art form. Choose a mug, a vase, a trinket, or even a piggy bank at Café Déco Céramique and let your imagination run wild as you paint it. You can also enjoy the restaurant during your lunch break. Grab your paintbrushes!
In short, Laval is brimming with activities that will let you enjoy the last few weeks of vacation before school starts again—all while staying cool, between sunburns and rain showers!
