Family on the run
Christine, Mathieu and their three children

Follow the adventures of Christine Labrie's family. Trained as a historian and mother of three young children, I'm also a fan of adventure, the outdoors and gastronomy. For me, everything is exotic and worth the trip, from Laos to Chisasibi, and from the Canary Islands to Laval!

When Tourisme Laval offered to come back and discover their island in winter, we knew we'd say yes. Because in one week, during our summer vacation, we hadn't had time to do everything, and the kids had already asked us to go back. And that's one of the advantages of traveling close to home, to be able to go back easily. So it was with great enthusiasm that we set off for Laval this morning!

We arrived just before dinner, just in time for a lunch stop at the legendary Gérard Patates. But not just any Gérard Patates! The one on boulevard Concorde, with its retro charm.

We managed to get their jukebox working. The kids are used to choosing their songs from the family ipod, so this big machine was a real laugh!

We then headed for Parc Bernard-Landry for our first family snowshoe outing. More experienced snowshoers might prefer Parc de la Rivière-des-Mille-Îles or Bois de l'Équerre, but for an outing with small children, it was perfect. Just big enough not to go round in circles, and small enough to go round without getting discouraged.

As we're always very lucky, we found two abandoned saucers at the top of a beautiful slope. They were a little broken, but held up for almost an hour, much to our delight. If you go, don't forget your sliding gear! It's a really nice place for it, and I'd almost go so far as to say it's higher than what's left of Mont Laval!

We ended the evening with a fine meal at Zibo! restaurant, where we recommend you try the pizzas! (Another tip: if their online reservation service ever says it's full, you'd better call).

We can't wait for tomorrow!
